qualiboXX was a project funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) which ran from 2009 to 2011. The aim was to develop a serious game called “qualimanager” – a learning game. It was part of the larger qualiboXX platform for young adults in the job preparation phase. Korion’s tasks were:
- game design and development
- integration of exercises in cooperation with “Schulen ans Netz”
In the game’s episodes, the learner works his way up from an ice-cream vendor to a restaurant owner. During this journey the tasks and areas of responsibility become more and more comprehensive. The game conveys basic skills in maths, economics and language in a motivating manner. Also players advance their social skills since they regularly have to find the appropriate tone in conversations with customers and colleagues.
Technically the development was a rough ride: the decision to create a 3D game with Flash in 2009 was ambitious. As the screenhot shows the technical issues were solved but the complexity was high and our learning curve steep…
